BIO
Marina Stanimirović (1988, Colombes, France), based in between Berlin, Germany and Paris, France.
She studied Contemporary Jewellery at the École Boulle and obtained a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London (2011-2013).
Her exhibitions include solo shows at the TATOR gallery in Lyon, France, the project space GR_UND in Berlin in 2021 and more recently at Untiled Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2022 Marina Stanimirović was awarded by the TRAME residency grant from the Cité Internationale des Arts and was selected in 2023 to participate in the Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin festival where her video work was screened at Haus Der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin.
In 2022, she created DERIVAT, a platform that invites actors from the art world to exchange ideas around the concepts of the Art market.
In 2023, she was co-directing the project space Gr_und, Wedding Berlin.
In 2025, she created the project M S WO, a project exploring social justice and empowerment through wearable objects.
Alongside her artistic practice, Marina Stanimirović is a social worker at WILDWASSER e.V., an organisation supporting women, transgender and non-binary persons who have been exposed to sexual violence in their childhood.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Marina Stanimirović works with installations that merge sculpture, photography, and writing into layered assemblages. Through collage, she creates constellations of objects that open up multiple narratives at once, oscillating between humour and derision, familiarity and estrangement.
Everyday elements—refrigerator shelves, windows, metal shelving, silicone seals—become protagonists when displaced from their function. Whether imagined and fabricated by Marina Stanimirović herself or fetched from the streets, these objects are re-staged as sites of tension, revealing broken systems and deferred maintenance.
Her narratives emerge from personal experience while addressing and confronting broader societal concerns. Heritage, systemic violence and inequality recur throughout her work, with trauma, loss and grief as their lasting repercussions. These experiences shape resilience and frame how individuals adapt —as both a survival strategy and a constraint.
Marina Stanimirović’s practice is informed by a deep political and social awareness; alongside her artistic work, she engages directly with these issues through her role as a social worker at Wildwasser e.V.
Her installations, in turn, become mediators to confront, reflect on, and render visible these often-hidden realities.
