WORK
Marina Stanimirović creates installations bringing together sculpture, photography and writing. She constructs fragmented narratives from found and fabricated objects, images and texts that operate like visual poems, where meaning emerges through rhythm, juxtaposition, interruption and contradiction. Glass found in the street, refrigerator shelves, metal parts and other discarded objects are displaced from their original contexts and brought into new relationships, alongside elements specifically designed and fabricated by the artist herself. The ways in which these fragments are connected become part of the work: joins, fastenings and provisional forms of attachment remain visible, making the relationships between objects as important as the objects themselves. Through this process, familiar fragments are rearranged to create stories that move between the real and the invented, the personal and the fictional.
Drawing from personal experience, Marina Stanimirović’s work opens onto questions of heritage, systemic violence, loss and grief. Rather than illustrating these subjects directly, she twists and re-stages fragments of reality, using narrative, humour and contradiction to construct situations in which different personal and social realities can meet. The stories remain deliberately incomplete: individual objects may carry very specific meanings, but their histories do not need to be fully revealed in order for new meanings to emerge.
Alongside her artistic practice, Marina Stanimirović works as a social worker at Wildwasser e.V., a non-profit organisation supporting survivors of childhood sexualised violence. This political and social engagement informs her artistic practice and her attention to what is hidden, displaced or left unattended. Her installations do not seek to illustrate these realities, but to create visual situations in which they can be encountered indirectly.
BIO
Marina Stanimirović (1988, Colombes, France) lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
She studied Contemporary Jewellery at the École Boulle in Paris and obtained an MA in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing and Metalwork from the Royal College of Art in London. Her exhibitions include solo presentations at GR_UND, Berlin (2021), Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2023), Untiled Galerie, Sofia (2025) and Das Zimmer, Berlin (2026). Her work has also been presented at the Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin in 2024 at Haus der Kultur der Welt,Berlin.
She has been awarded residencies and grants including the TRAME programme at the Cité Internationale des Arts (2022) and Neustart Kultur (2022).
In 2022, she founded DERIVAT, an artist-run platform engaging critically with the structures of the contemporary art market, and in 2023 joined the curatorial board of the artist-run project space GR_UND in Berlin. Alongside her artistic practice, Stanimirović works as a social worker at WILDWASSER e.V., supporting women*, trans and non-binary people affected by childhood sexualised violence.
