WORK
Marina Stanimirović works with installation, bringing together sculpture, photography and writing. She constructs collages of objects and materials that operate like poems, where meaning emerges through fragments, juxtaposition and contradiction. Everyday elements such as found refrigerator shelves, door stopper, metal shelving or silicone rubber elements are displaced from their functions and re-staged as protagonists. Whether found in the street or fabricated by Marina herself, these objects are re-staged as sites of tension, where traces of use, neglect, repair and failure become visible.
Her work draws from personal experience while opening onto broader questions of heritage, systemic violence and inequality. Trauma, loss and grief recur throughout her practice, not simply as subjects but as forces that shape how people carry the past and adapt to what surrounds them. Resilience appears both as a means of survival and as a condition that can itself become limiting.
Marina Stanimirović’s practice is informed by a sustained engagement with social and political realities. Alongside her artistic work, she works as a social worker at Wildwasser e.V., a non-profit organisation supporting survivors of childhood sexualised violence. This proximity to lived experience informs her attention to what is hidden, displaced or left unattended. Her installations do not seek to illustrate these realities, but to create visual situations in which they can be encountered indirectly.
BIO
Marina Stanimirović (1988, Colombes, France), based in between Berlin, Germany and Paris, France.
She studied Contemporary Jewellery at the École Boulle and obtained a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London (2013).
Her exhibitions include solo shows at the project space GR_UND in Berlin in 2021, at Untiled Gallery, in Sofia, Bulgaria and more recently at Das Zimmer, in Berlin. In 2022 Marina Stanimirović was awarded by the TRAME residency grant from the Cité Internationale des Arts and was selected in 2023 for the Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin festival in Paris and at the Haus Der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin.
In 2022, she created DERIVAT, a platform that invites actors from the art world to exchange ideas around the concepts of the Art market.
In 2023, she was co-directing and co-curating the project space Gr_und, Wedding Berlin.
In 2025, she created the project M S WO, a project exploring social justice and empowerment through wearable objects.
Alongside her artistic practice, Marina Stanimirović is a social worker at WILDWASSER e.V., an organisation supporting women, transgender and non-binary persons who have been exposed to sexual violence in their childhood.
