Se nourrir de résistances et de mémoires solidaires, Open Studios of the TRAME program Laureats, curated by the artiste and curator Léuli Eshraghi.
My residency project at the Cité Internationales des Arts focused on the funeral industry in France. I presented my residency research (photographs, objects and selected interview transcripts) in my then atelier at the Cite Internationale des Arts.
Funeral rites have always been part of our traditions, yet in today’s western societies they are being lost, hidden and monetised. During these 3 months of residency I took the time to explore the codes, the rites but also its industry and business. Through analog photography and sound recording, I documented several funeral facilities and among others, had the chance to meet and discuss with a cemetery director, an undertaker, funeral stone engravers and florists.
